Here is my analogy for what has been done to capitalism in this country. It’s like saying your Aunt Frieda’s recipe for chocolate cake is terrible, but forgetting to mention that you’ve been adding three cups of salt to the recipe every time.
Bit by bit our government has dismantled capitalism, and now I hear the argument, “see! It’s not working! Our financial system is crumbling!”
Well.
- Banks are failing because the government forced them to take on unprofitable loans.
- Doctors have to charge so much because the government has put such a heavy burden of red tape on them.
- Insurance companies charge so much (1) because they’re trying to cover the doctor’s costs (see #2).
- Your insurance is related to your job because the government requires it. Your company pays you less money because the cost of hiring you goes far beyond your salary. It also means the company can’t employ as many people.
- Insurance companies charge so much (2) because they are working primarily with companies instead of individuals and they know a company can shoulder these costs more easily than an individual could (see #4). The company MUST shoulder the cost, however high, because the government requires it.
Is this oversimplified? Of course it is. But it’s still true.
Capitalism isn’t an idea. It’s human nature. It is based on greed being balanced by greed. If you don’t think people are greedy by nature, you’ve obviously never been to Las Vegas.
If you are a baker and you can sell the same amount of bread whether you charge $1 a loaf or $2 a loaf, why would you help everyone else’s budget at the expense of your own? You wouldn’t.
If you are the buyer and the baker down the street sells his bread for half of what the bakery right in front of you does, you’re going to walk down the street if you’re able, right? You’re not going to help the expensive baker make more money out of the goodness of your heart, are you? Not likely.
The reason why all these seemingly altruistic social ideas being pushed by politicians right now NEVER WORK is that there is no balancing force. When the government makes all the rules, power moves upward and never comes back down. You have no recourse, no ability to shop somewhere else. This is also why politicians LOVE these great-sounding ideas. You’ll vote for them for loving you so much, and they are creating more and more power for themselves. It turns into unchecked greed.
What also happens is that much of the economy goes underground, black market. If you don’t believe that, go visit Russia.
What rules does the black market always follow?
Yeah. Capitalism. All by itself!
The best part is, the United States has insulated itself so much, allowed generation after generation to grow up so completely ignorant of history, that very few people even realize, “hey! These ideas have failed every time they’ve ever been tried!” Those who do know this are either (1) in government and trying to create more power for themselves, or (2) so arrogant as to believe Americans can make something work that has never worked before. Something that has even failed when it has been tried here (take a look at New Jersey & California).
Those who do realize it will fail and don’t want to feck everything up for their children and grandchildren are terrorists, according to our own government.
Politicians and diapers both need changing regularly. And for the same reason. – Author Unknown
